Raining in Accra

Yep, last night and the night before it really pissed down (that means 'rained heavily' for you Brits) for hours, and it was lovely to wake up for once without feeling sweaty and fuzzy-headed from the heat. The downside is that the open sewers are all flowing, and sometimes overflowing - one more thing to dodge while walking down the street, along with lumps of concrete and huge holes in the footpaths. And the mosquito population is increasing rapidly, but they are still carefully avoiding Dave in favour of biting me.

Being in Accra inevitably means more visa action, and we were lucky to both be successfully granted an extension to our Ghanaian visas (without being busted for our 'real' occupations! I was unnecessarily paranoid about this given that government agencies don't seem to have networked computers). Then it was off to get our Burkinabe visas - in contrast to the two weeks it took to extend our Ghanaian visas, Burkina Faso had us sorted out in about 4 hours, and were much more jovial about it. I am almost looking forward to going to Francophone West Africa again - and not just because they use condensed milk instead of evaporated milk (condensed is better, trust me).
